The TCF-142 media converters feature a multiple interface circuit. This circuit handles RS-232 or RS-422/485 serial interfaces and multi-mode or single-mode fiber.
These converters extend serial transmission significantly:
You can configure the converters for either RS-232 signals or RS-422/485 signals. However, they cannot handle both signal types simultaneously.
The converters automatically detect the serial baudrate. This feature provides extreme convenience. Even when you change a device’s baudrate, the signal transmits through the media converter without data loss.
You can connect serial devices to a fiber ring using these converters. To form the ring, connect one unit’s Tx port to a neighboring converter’s Rx port. Once you set up the ring, configure the converters for ring mode using the DIP switches.
When one node transmits a signal, the signal travels around the ring. The signal continues until it returns to the transmitting unit, which then blocks it. You can set up fiber rings with a total circumference of up to 100 km.
Automatic Data Direction Control (ADDC) is a hardware data flow solution that Moxa developed. ADDC handles RS-485 data direction control by sensing and controlling RS-485 data direction automatically. This eliminates the need to use handshaking signals.
